Australia’s head swimming coach Rohan Taylor has ostensibly praised the culture of the sport after being re-appointed for three years. Taylor, who oversaw Australia’s top Olympics last month in Tokyo, will remain in office until at least the 2024 Paris Games. The Australian swimming team won nine gold medals in Tokyo, a record for the nation at the Olympics. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in Tokyo (…) and the great environment we have built within this team over the past few years,” Taylor said in a statement Monday. “With a shorter cycle to Paris now, I look forward to continuing to work with our coaches and athlete leaders to build on this success and maintain the fantastic culture we have created.” Taylor’s cultural credentials come as part of an ongoing independent investigation into allegations of abusive practices in elite swimming. Swimming Australia has formed a panel led by prominent lawyer Chris Ronalds to examine complaints that surfaced during the Olympic selection trials in June. Ronalds, who helped shape Australia’s gender discrimination law, has yet to report on his findings. Associated Australian Press
