Jesse Lingard reacts … to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in England
As England prepare for the UEFA European Championship final this summer, memories are instantly brought up from the last major Three Lions tournament – the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Gareth Southgate’s side were quick to reach the final in Russia, beating Tunisia, Panama, Colombia on penalties and Sweden, before taking the semi-final advantage against Croatia before d ‘to be finally ruled out 2-1 in overtime.
Three years later, hopes are high that the talented England side can do well again and potentially win the country’s first European crown.
As eyes turn to international football after a superb 2020/21 domestic season, West Ham TV spoke with Jesse Lingard for the last of our Reacts series… to look back on this unforgettable 2018 World Cup.
The midfielder enjoyed a decisive tournament, scoring a magnificent goal in the group stage victory over Panama, assisting Dele Alli’s goal in the quarter-final victory over Sweden and revealing he would have taken the sixth penalty in the spectacular shootout victory over Colombia in the second round.
And, watching the tournament highlights at Rush Green in early May, the 28-year-old felt all the emotions coming back to him – as you can see!
